(Jam) Bounty of Wraeth
Controls:
WASD / Arrows = move / aim
F or V = Jump
(different in Explore mode, where jumping isn't necessary)
E/C/Space = Attack
(Jumping only useful in Battle mode)
(When you walk into an enemy, press F or Space to advance the "Encounter" screen)
You are a Hero sent to vanquish terrible monsters from The Realm of Wraeth.
How to...
Exploration mode: Track and defeat all monsters (Move into them)
Battle mode: Use up/down to aim at different body parts. Attack and try to hit an unshielded body part. Attack (or move aside) to neutralize small hazards. Jump to avoid large hazards.
Current (and first) Speedrun Record holder

Theme: BIG
Enemies be bigger the further you go.
Start with smaller enemies to gain upgrades, to defeat larger enemies easier.
Pre-req: Constant Duality
You gain some you lose some (Character Stats)
When you get to choose a Duality (your stats-upgrade) you get an increase on one, but a decrease on another. So choose and plan wisely!
Issues?
Game's filesize is 80-90 Mb so let it load. It's a bit slow. If keyboard inputs don't seem to work, try to click on the game view.
Personally the game didn't work on my Vivaldi -browser, but on Firefox it did.
Fullscreen recommended ( click the button bottom right )
Ideally the game would have expanded gameplay and mechanics depth, given more time. Some bugs might be present due to development timeconstraints. Have fun! :)
No AI was used in development.
Walkthrough/instructions
Exploration Mode:
There is a compass top left of screen to assist you in finding nearest enemies, not always the best target to go at though, as larger enemies are tougher to beat. There is a day and night cycle, and your Hero does different amounts of damage depending of time of day (upgradable) so choose your builds wisely. The amount of score gained in battles depends on day of time as well. The game is won when you have cleared all the enemies off the map.
Battle Mode:
Your stamina gauge is the thin blue line at bottom of screen and enemy health meter is below it. Your health is shown as a gradually more invasive vignette showing on screen. You may aim up and down to adjust projectile trajectory in-flight. When the enemy does a light attack, you can move left or right to dodge it, or you can slash at it at a specific time to break the enemy attack's impact. Jumping and attacking costs stamina, and jump is mainly used to avoid the large enemy attacks that create a shockwave of dirt that approaches you.
Upgrade screen after Battle Mode:
There are your current stats showing bottom right. If you get a higher score than 100, you get to pick a Duality for your abilities (increase+decrease your stats basically) so if it says ++attack speed it means you gain attack speed, but after it says --HP Max that means you also lose 1 from your Max HP. It is possible to go down to 1 HP Max and then you must be very careful dodging all the enemy's attacks. If you gain scores larger than 1000 you also gain a Bonus (mentioned as Bonus Factor) to your stat increases. Things may go slow at first, but after a few upgrades you really start to feel things getting easier and faster. There's a lot of funny builds to go for, such as Chinykian's Fat-Jumping Glass Cannon.
Breakdown
Visuals:
Stress-free Lasso tool -art, most assets drawn in under 1 minute (except the Hero and Monster). Highly inspired by an old retro MMORPG: Blade Mistress. A custom font drawn by the developer was also used.
Audio:
Crafted mainly from free assets (CC0). For atmospheric purposes. Developer usually prefers more retro-esque sounds, though. Much editing was made on many of the audio assets. They're not in raw.
Gameplay:
A mix of 2.5D JRPGs and Thirdperson-style action. Focus on mild exploration, fairness, and engaging content.
